Police decline to act, Van fails to stop after injuring pedestrian on footpath

A bright sunny day in Buckingham, visibility is good.  A pedestrian is walking along a footpath when they are struck from behind by a white electrical factors van.  The impact knocks them forward, doubling them over.  Luckily, the impact only causes them to stumble forward some steps and they manage not to fall to the ground, which may have caused further injuries.  It could have been so much worse.  The impact of the mirror striking the pedestrian was very loud.  The van driver failed to stop, however the index number was noted along with the company owner name.  The pedestrian sustained soft tissue injury to their back and shoulder and required medical treatment including physiotherapy and painkillers over a period of time.  The fail to stop hit and run was reported to Thames Valley Police (TVP) with the vehicle details.  TVP declined to get involved as it was not known if there was CCTV.  No CCTV = no interest.  No matter.

A lost cause?  Some might think so.   I didn’t think so.

I provided a statement and advice on how to deal with the incident and make a claim.  The claim was settled by the van insurer, paying for the harm and suffering caused as a result of their van striking the pedestrian.

If you are injured or suffer loss, no CCTV, maybe no one thinks you have a claim, or no one else wants to get involved, maybe you shouldn’t just give up?
